John LINK came to Kentucky after the Mexican-American War and settled in Logan Co where he married (three times) and raised a large family. Have a record of his having sold the land awarded to him when he was released from the U.S. Army in New Orleans and the land was in Ohio. He sold it through a notary in Canton, Ohio. Family stories say his parents died when he and his brother were young and they were taken in by an uncle. They both ran away to join the army when the war broke out and never returned. The brother (name unknown) either was blown up on a ship or went to California. John Link's parents, according to some sources, are buried in a cemetery in Stark Co. John spoke with a broken accent (German) and again some say he came to this county with his family when he was three; others that he was born here. Not sure what faith, but most of their decendants were United Brethren. I was told that they were both born in Pennsylvania, although I have no proof of that. It is possible that they were also married in Pa, but I do know that their 5th child was born in Lexington Twp, Stark County Ohio in 1842 and they came to Monroe Twp Allen County Ohio in 1849. They lived there until their death around 1866. I don't know the exact date, but found bills for their caskets in the estate papers at the court house. Five caskets. Four large and one small.
